Essential Duties
Teaching undergraduate courses (4-4 load). Leads recruitment for the B.S. in Early Childhood Education major. Academic advising, involvement in School of Education and university service (assessment reports, etc.) as requested, and service beyond School and university as appropriate. Carries out an agenda of scholarly work and professional development.
Minimum Qualifications
In the final stages of completion of an earned doctorate degree (e.g., “ABD”) in early childhood education or a Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) recognized early childhood related field from a regionally accredited institution required. Evidence of instruction at the higher education level required. Familiarity with current preschool classroom methods and technology required. Familiarity with current early childhood education practices, birth to age eight, including classroom methods, developmental frameworks, working with behavior and special needs, family engagement strategies, and a strong understanding of policy and advocacy within the context of community-based early childhood systems required. Previous experience teaching in or leading early learning settings or working with or on behalf of young children in the field of early childhood education required.

Earned doctorate degree in early childhood education or a Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) recognized early childhood related field from a regionally accredited institution preferred. Three-years higher education classroom teaching experience preferred. Experience with NAEYC and/or CAEP accreditation preferred. Experience supervising student teaching preferred. Demonstrated application of best practices in applying educational technology to innovate curriculum and new models of course delivery preferred. Understanding of Mississippi community college early childhood technical credit programs preferred. Faculty with experience from various early learning settings, including public collaborative and/or Head Start programs preferred.
Job Description Summary
Mississippi University for Women (MUW) invites applications for an Instructor/Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education in the Department of Education beginning fall 2025. The position requires excellence in teaching, scholarly activities and service. Summer teaching may be available.

This faculty position is designated for a terminally-degreed early childhood education generalist who is qualified to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, is responsible for undergraduate teaching (4-4 load), leads recruitment for the B.S. in Early Childhood Education major, is involved in academic advising as well as the department’s student recruitment and retention strategies, takes part as requested in learning outcomes assessment and program assessment, accreditation reporting and in School of Education initiatives related to innovations in curriculum and delivery, carries out an agenda of scholarly work and professional development (research, conference participation, etc.), and is involved in service to the School of Education and university as appropriate. This faculty position will serve as a faculty supporter of the newly established Office of Early Childhood within the Center for Education Support, contributing to its mission through program and professional development, data validation, community engagement, and advocacy. The primary service component for this faculty position will align with the School of Education’s goals to advance grassroots early childhood initiatives and strengthen regional education systems in the region in which the university serves and broadly across the state of Mississippi.
