Essential Duties
  • Face-to-face instruction at the undergraduate level in applied culinary courses (willingness to explore online instruction should it be warranted).
  • Excellence in teaching, student advising and career mentoring.
  • Assistance with program assessment and reporting.
  • Supporting efforts to recruit new students and secure program growth.
  • Continued innovation in curriculum and educational delivery.
  • Continued professional development and commitment to lifelong learning.
  • Maintaining an office and strong on-campus presence at MUW.
  • Sponsor and advise student organizations and competition teams.
  • Assistance with procurement and maintenance of inventory.
  • Maintaining a strong presence in the community and region.
  • Service at College, departmental, and University levels.
  • Work with a collaborative spirit in furtherance of the mission of Mississippi University for Women, the College of Business and Professional Studies, and the Culinary Arts Institute.
  • Other College, departmental, and University duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidate must meet one of the two minimum requirements below:
1. Master’s degree in Hospitality Management, Food Science, Nutrition, Workforce Development, or field related to the development of a skilled culinary workforce
2. Master’s degree in any discipline plus must meet one of the following requirements below:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts or relevant field,
    • 2 years of experience in teaching Culinary Arts at any level, or
    • 2 years of industry experience.
  • Associates degree in Culinary Arts or relevant field,
    • 5 years of experience teaching Culinary Arts at any level, or
    • 5 years of industry experience.
Preferred Requirements:
  • 3 years of industry experience.
  • 3 years teaching experience in culinary arts or related field.
  • Experience with outreach to community college and high school culinary arts programs.
  • Maintenance of ServSafe certification.
Job Description Summary
The Mississippi University for Women College of Business and Professional Studies invites applications for a 9-month Chef Instructor in the Culinary Arts Institute beginning in August 2025, with a January 2025 appointment possible. Among several duties, the successful candidate will provide face-to-face instruction at the undergraduate level of up to 12 hours a semester primarily in applied culinary arts courses as well as maintain a record of excellence in teaching, student advising, and career mentoring. Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience.
