Essential Duties
  • Responsible for the implementation of a rich and meaningful educational experience implementing early childhood education pedagogy; including written detailed lesson plans using the Mississippi Early Learning Standards and formal Frogstreet curriculum.
  • Assess student’s progress using formal and informal assessments, communicate progress with families, and use data to implement program changes.
  • Responsible for daily meaningful communication with parents; including relaying classroom activities and milestones through photos, narratives, and/or newsletters.
  • Must be competent in modeling exemplary teacher behaviors, mentoring and offering guidance to other staff, practicum experiences, and parents.
  • Must be proficient in oral and written communication; both formal and informal.
  • Follow all regulations, policies, and procedures; including those of MUW, CPDC; assist with the classroom level management of national NAEYC accreditation, MSDoH Licensure, the MSDHS Certificate Program, the Child and Adult Nutrition Program, and any other oversight organizations, including grants.
  • Able to appropriately model advanced self regulation skills and executive functions that allow for planning, focus, self control, and flexibility.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to build relationships and connections with children, families, and staff.
  • Understand the use of adult language (open ended questioning, specific praise, positive tone, and back and forth conversations) to build cognition, language skills, and social emotional competency in children.
  • Maintain a safe, healthy, organized, and clean classroom environment.
  • Change out centers on a regular basis to meet the educational needs of the curriculum and students.
  • Complete all necessary professional development training.
  • Make the children feel loved, valued, cared for, and accepted; ensure the families have a positive first school experience.
  • Able to delegate classroom duties to practicum students, volunteers, and work study students.
  • Responsible for following and implementing the daily routines and schedule of the classroom.
  • Work schedule for this position is Monday – Friday, 7:15 am – 2:00 pm. Hours may vary depending on staffing needs.
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education:
  • The equivalency to an associate’s degree (AA) in early childhood education, which is defined by NAEYC as at least 60 college/university credits with at least 30 college credits in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, or early childhood special education. Transcripts documenting (highlight credits): at least 60 college/university credits INCLUDING at least 30 credits in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, or early childhood special education or any field related to understanding to the job duties

Preferred Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or early childhood special education; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with at least 36 college credits in early childhood education, child development, elementary education or early childhood special education

Experience:
  • 3 years experience working in a licensed, high-quality child care facility required; with preference in a high quality educational preschool environment; including others operating as a laboratory school with practicum students or with national NAEYC accreditation.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Must be qualified to act as a Director Designee as per Mississippi licensure standards
  • Must have First Aid/CPR/AED training; or be willing to complete within 30 days of hire
  • Must have current Letter of Suitability for Mississippi Childcare (Background Check); or be willing to complete within 30 days of hire

  • Ability to work with a diverse group, including those with disabilities and families and staff of diverse cultural, ethnic, linguistic and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Complete understanding of early childhood development and developmentally appropriate practice, including play-based philosophy
Job Description Summary
Provides care and effective learning activities designed to promote social, emotional, physical (fine/gross motor), self-help/adaptive, cognitive, and language growth appropriate for assigned age group of students enrolled at the Child and Parent Development Center (CPDC).
Hours of Availability
Hours are 7:15 am – 2:00 pm with 1 hour lunch break
